MAHSA University launched its postgraduate business school named Haniffa Business School (HBS) on the 10th of October, 2021 at its City Campus in MAHSA Avenue, Kuala Lumpur.
The launch ceremony began with speeches from the Group Managing Director of MAHSA Group, Y. Bhg. Dato’ Dr. Shahril bin Prof. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Haji Mohamed Haniffa and the Executive Chairman & Pro-Chancellor of MAHSA University, Y. Bhg. Prof. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Haji Mohamed Haniffa bin Haji Abdullah. Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri M. Saravanan Murugan, Minister of Human Resources then proceeded with his Ministerial Address, which was then followed by the official launch of HBS by YB Minister and Executive Chairman & Pro-Chancellor of MAHSA University.
The ceremony also saw the appointments and conferment of titles by HBS. These appointments are initiatives to enhance the academic reputation, prominence and contribution of HBS by using the rich experience and strong expertise of the individuals appointed. Firstly, Y. Bhg. Datuk Seri Zurainah Binti Musa, the Executive Director of Berjaya Corporation Bhd. and Y. Bhg. Prof. Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, the Executive Director of the Economic Action Council (EAC) were appointed as Members of the HBS Industry Council. The two appointees were selected based on their achievements and contributions in the various private and public sectors, respectively.
Secondly, there was the conferment of Professor Emeritus of Leadership and Healthcare Management. The recipient is Y. Bhg. Prof. Datuk Dr. Haji Megat Burhainuddin bin Megat Abdul Rahman. This award was conferred as a recognition of his leadership roles in academia, which included his past roles as the former Chairman of MAHSA College, the first Vice-Chancellor of MAHSA University College, and MAHSA University. In addition, this award is to also recognise his contribution to the public healthcare sector, which culminated in his role as the Deputy Director General of Health in the Ministry of Health.
In this ceremony, there was also a conferment of the title of HBS Eminent Fellow. HBS conferred Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop as the recipient of this award. The award was conferred to him to honour his past achievements as the former Minister of Finance II, Minister in the Prime Minister’s office, Special Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad and his other distinguished roles that contributed to the economic development of the nation.
Finally, the ceremony ended with the launch of the Tun Zaki Chair of Humanitarian Leadership. The Chair of Humanitarian Leadership in HBS is established with the mission of becoming a leading Center of Excellence in seeking new knowledge and strengthening the expertise in the field of Humanitarian Leadership. It is a Center that will be committed to achieving societal development and social justice. It is named after Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki bin Tun Azmi, who is currently the Chancellor of MAHSA University. Y.A.Bhg. Tun Dato’ Seri Zaki bin Tun Azmi has greatly contributed to the development of Malaysia through his works in ensuring social justice and progress in the country. This Chair will strengthen research capacity in the field of Humanitarian Leadership, which aims to understand and contribute to the enhancement of humanitarian activities in the country. This Chair shall also provide students with a greater understanding of leading non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that can effectively support the nation’s agenda toward sustainable development.
